What translation does Let's Talk Bible use?
One of the questions I get is about the translation I’ve used on the site. While I usually preach from the ESV, Let’s Talk Bible uses the World English Bible (WEB) for its content.
The WEB was created to be in the public domain. There is no copyright on the WEB, so there are no required permissions or fees for use. That means I can quote, record, and present any portion of the scripture.
It is a scholarly translation. It uses contemporary English while maintaining a formal equivalence (word-for-word) translation approach. It is based on the American Standard Version (ASV) of 1901, which is in the public domain.
There are times when I disagree with some of the translation decisions, but that is true for all translations. Plus, these few occasions give us an excuse to look more closely at the original languages as well.
I also like that the WEB does not have section titles. I think it provides a more literary approach to reading the text without interruptions.
